Chocolate and Strawberry Cupcakes

This Tuesday it is officially September! Whaaaaat? Where has this year gone? My birthday is also coming up (on the 21st), which is exciting!

Today I am sharing a recipe for Chocolate and Strawberry Cupcakes. This recipe is easy and a little unique, which is the kind of recipe we love here 😉 Enjoy!

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 20 minutes

Chocolate and Strawberry Cupcakes


110g self-raising flour, sifted

28g cocoa powder, sifted

110g butter, softened

2 large eggs

110g strawberry jam

110g butter, softened

225g icing sugar

1 tablespoon milk

1/2 teasp vanilla essence


  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C and line a muffin tin with cupcake cases.
  2. Combine the flour, cocoa, sugar, butter and eggs in a bowl and whisk together for 2 minutes.
  3. Divide half the mixture between the paper cases, then add 1 tsp of strawberry jam in the centre of each one.
  4. Top with the rest of the cake mixture then transfer to the oven and bake for 15 – 20 minutes.
  5. Transfer the cakes to a wire rack and leave to cool,
  6. To make the buttercream icing, beat the butter until light and fluffy then beat in the icing sugar. Add the milk and vanilla and mix. (You could even add strawberry syrup in at this stage).
  7. Pipe the icing onto the cupcakes, sprinkle some sprinkles on and enjoy.
